Foundation of JRI
The Japan Research Institute(JRI) was established as a non-profit organization on August 31, 1970. JRI was established in order to pursue and solve the complex problems that inevitably confront the public and private sectors in the present highly sophisticated era as well as to formulate new ideas and theories.
JRI’s establishment was motivated by individual initiative, and therefore, JRI’s first working principle is complete neutrality and creativity without the influence of established enterprises, capital groups, and organizations such as political parties and labor unions. Since its foundation, JRI has been actively involved in research projects commissioned by public and private organizations. With the accumulation of successful performance records, JRI has been widely recognized as one of Japan’s representative think tanks.
JRI’s second working principle is to expand scope of its human resources for innovative and flexible organizational structure while avoiding complexity. Toward this end, the full-time staff at JRI are carefully selected and trained for comprehensive, wide-range of organizational tasks. Top specialists are frequently enlisted to join JRI staff members on special project terms, and these specialists maintain lasting research and personal relationships with JRI staff members.
The third working principle of JRI is to keep abreast of international trends and to incorporate an international perspective into all its activities. Shortly after JRI’s establishment, foreign staff members were employed to initiate contact and information exchange with overseas organizations as well as to actively accept international projects.
JRI is continuously striving to upgrade the quality of research activities by adhering to the aforementioned working principles.
JRI ACTIVITIES
- Research which Aims for Interdisciplinary Study in the Humanities,
Social Sciences and National Sciences.
JRI carries out two kinds of research: JRI’s own projects, and projects for clients. As a rule, the results of the former are released to public, while the latter is reported only to the clients. Regarding projects that are commissioned by government agencies, however, results are made public with the clients’ permission.The research themes, according to the Institute’s initial motives, concentrate on universally valid problems in the economic, social, and industrial spheres. The approach utilized for research is interdisciplinary analysis, since any one discipline is insufficient in tackling multi-faceted contemporary problems. - JRI Aims to promote International Understanding and to eliminate the Lag in the Research Level through International Exchange
Internationalization is a prominent tendency in the present highly-industrialized era. However, the internationalization of the Japan’s professional research circle falls evidently behind. The major reason for this is rather weak financial foundation of Japanese research organization compared to other countries. This inevitably makes it difficult for the research organizations to promote internationalization. In response to this need, JRI is actively promoting internationalization by taking part in international joint-research, accepting research projects from overseas countries, organizing international symposia, and lectures, exchanging information and human resources with foreign countries, and distributing books and materials to foreign countries. - JRI Plans Continuing Education Activities for Business Executives
Currently, we are all undergoing rapid change and the experience and know-how which we have accumulated will be quickly outdated. Thus it becomes necessary to reconsider the meaning of education itself. Now it is time to outgrow the concept of education by talking every opportunity to enrich oneself. Such attitude towards continuous cultivation is necessary for individuals holding responsible posts in both public and private organizations. JRI promotes opportunities to cultivate oneself not only through the various symposia, seminars and lectures but also by devoting itself in the establishment and universalization of new value standards by utilizing the results of various researches.
